Scriptel’s ST1501 LCD Signature Pad Introduces Platform Independent Solution for Web Environments
Patent Pending Electronic Signature Capture Pad for Web Platforms Still Delivers the Benefits of Scriptel’s Existing Product Innovations
Columbus, Ohio – March 5, 2012 - Scriptel Corporation (Scriptel), a global provider of electronic pen and sensor technology, is pleased to announce the launch of the ST1501 LCD Electronic Signature Pad for Web Environments.
“This signature pad innovation allows developers to reduce time and money in development while still providing a “plug & play” solution,” said Albin Andolshek, VP of Business Development “The ST1501U provides developers with a proven tool in a flexible format to serve the market’s needs.”
The ST1501U LCD Electronic Signature Pad integrates into custom web applications or platforms and includes browser agnostic firmware that allows developers to leverage any major web browser, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. The new signature pad also allows developers to connect to any major computer OS including Windows, Mac, and Linux without downloading 3rd party drivers or plugins to capture signatures from the device.
Historically, the only way to call a signature pad from a web browser was through creating custom Java or ActiveX controls. This solution not only requires significant development, but also consistent support due to the ever changing landscape across web browsers and operating systems. Scriptel’s solution addresses both of these issues by utilizing generic drivers inherit to all modern computer operating systems and passes signature data directly to the browser.
The device is designed and manufactured with universal integration hardware, and works with a variety of web based applications for Point of Sale systems at small and medium businesses, transactions in brick and mortar stores, Customer Relationship Management systems, online document sharing services, and cloud based systems.
In addition to being device and web browser agnostic, the ST1501U LCD uses Scriptel’s Static Capacitive Glass and Active Digital Pen technology, which is deployed in nearly 3 million devices worldwide. The primary sensing layer is coated underneath the glass, enabling it to perform in the midst of scratches and debris.
This technology also maintains a high palm rejection rate, allowing unobstructed signature capture when hands or fingers are in contact with the sensor, a feature uncommon in most capacitive digitizers. Designed to exceed 2 million signatures, the ST1501U LCD Electronic Signature Pad’s rugged construction also resists accidents including spills and drops and is tailor made for high traffic deployments.

How many times are you signing documents for your business? From contracts to work orders to disclosures. There are so many needs for your signature in business today. When this situation arises, we are compelled to print out the documents and sign with a pen. From there, we scan these documents back to our computers and send via email or fax from paper form.
This method is highly innefficient in a digital age. Signature pads are here to save paper, ink, and time spent on managing these times when we need to sign a document. Signature pads are not just for banks or government anymore. The market is now mature and finding a reasonably priced electronic pad is much easier than in the past. These devices can plug in via USB and you can be signing documents in just a few minutes.
Think about instances where you have needed to sign a statement of work, purchase order, or confidentialility agreement. Imagine if you could eliminate the inefficient process of printing, scanning, and sending. Not only would you be doing good things for the environment, but you would also be saving time that could be spent reading these documents and focusing on your job. Try out Scriptel's personal electronic signature pad for your home, office, and/or small business today.

Multiple Technologies
There are three major types of digitizing technology used in signature pads: Resistive, Electromagnetic, and Capacitive. All of these technologies seek to deliver the location of a pen much like a map provides longitude and latitude coordinates, however, not all methods are created equal.
Resistive
Resistive technology uses a multilayer membrane that detects a location when force is applied to a specific region. These sensors provide a low cost solution, but are prone to scratches, wear and tear and have a much shorter lifecycle in high traffic environments. They also are not as transparent as glass solutions when overlaid on top of LCD displays, which affects perceived signature quality. The widespread use of this technology has attributed to the standard expectation of low quality signature capture devices in the publics’ eye.
Electromagnetic
Electromagnetic sensors are some of the most commonly used technology in this space. These sensors detect pen location by inserting a circuit board layered with areas that create an electromagnetic field around the screen. A pen with a special circuit is then used to complete the flow of data. These solutions are very accurate and when combined with a glass overlay are very durable yet can result in higher costs due to the complexity of adding an additional circuit board and screen overlay on the device. Another major drawback is the lack of touch support which can limit adoption in the Point-of-Sale environments.
Static Capacitive Glass
Scriptel's static capacitive sensors address both cost and functionality. Unlike most capacitive sensors, the sensor coating is strategically placed on the backside of the glass, preventing damage from scratches or other environmental variables. This design allows the single package to become the digitizer and protectective barrier, creating a simple, robust, and high quality solution.
Scriptel's technology provides its customers with devices that are designed to endure high traffic retail environments at a lower total cost of ownership than mainstream alternatives.

Many IT administrators have multiple factors to consider when integrating any type of a paperless solution utilizing signature pad technology.
Businesses are always looking to improve their bottom line. Every department is given goals to improve processes and become more efficient. IT departments are no different. In fact, by leveraging new technologies, the IT department can realize some of the greatest improvements. A paperless environment is one of those improvements that more and more companies are adopting.
Contracts, agreements and other paperwork have been created electronically for a very long time. It wasn’t until the year 2000, that electronic signatures became the legal equivalent of their hand written counterparts. That year, the Federal E-SIGN Act was signed into law.
Since that beginning, electronic signatures are now everywhere. Many brokerage and insurance firms now use a signature pad to capture digital signatures. Other high tech companies are using digital signatures to process many more contracts at a faster rate, increasing their productivity and generating more profit. Even your local supermarket checkout counters are adopting electronic signature technology.
